Iron Fist, Toast and Pinguins

Pints and Pencils again this week. Warmed up with a quick Iron Fist drawing:

My entry for the competition was a little more rushed than usual. I asked if we could do some kind of comic and Will decided we should do an origin story for an entirely original superhero. I quite like this and may clean it up and ink it at some point.

Also here's a couple of things I did recently that I haven't posted yet.

First up the profile picture I drew for the new Pints of Cake collective/website I'm going to be contributing to:

and a picture I drew for a friend. She pronounces 'penguin' to sound like 'pinguin' and I presume this is what she's talking about:

Dr Strange, Crap Cyborg and various cats

A few things from the most recent Pints and Pencils.

A quick Dr Strange that I drew to warm up:

My entry for the competition (runner up). We had to draw a budget version of a superhero costume so I did Cyborg from the JLA/Titans if his dad ran a meth lab instead of a high tech research lab.

and finally various weird, slightly wrong cats. I really like the one with the sideways head.

Also because I don't think I posted it here yet here's a design I did for Dr Destino, arch-nemesis of Los Cuatro Fantasticos:

Los Cuatro Fantasticos

What if the Fantastic Four were actually a Mariachi band that were accidentally sent into space and bombarded with cosmic radiation. Blessed with uncanny abilities they became Los Cuatro Fantasticos!

Pints, Pencils and Pandas

It's been a while since I updated this so here's a bunch of stuff that I've been doing.

First up, my entry for Pints and Pencils yesterday. I won £20 to spend at Travelling Man for drawing Iron Man as a jellyfish.

Next a drawing of Barry the Insomniac Dragon from Seth and Ghost that I did for a friend who likes dragons. This is also the first time I've drawn him with anything other than his head and arms showing. I'm quite happy with the design.

and finally an assortment of pandas for a friend who loves pandas.

Panda Minions:

Adventure Time:

Panda-Z:

Steve and Pyramid Cat as Pandas:

and the hideous evolution of the common panda (this one was for my own amusement, she didn't like it):

Ghost Foetus: Chapter 4

The fourth chapter of Ghost Foetus, and the end of this first stage of the story is now here.
I'm going to take a break from the adventures of Amy and myself for a while and work on finishing the Hamilton Rook story that I started in the two issues of Imaginary Stories. Don't worry though, I will return to Ghost Foetus soon enough.

You can also read some extra strips outside of the main storyline here and see some disturbing fan art here.

Ghost Foetus: Chapter 3

I thought I was going to have a break from drawing after finishing the Seth and Ghost book last week but instead I drew the third chapter of Ghost Foetus.
You can read it here.

Steve the Brick in: A Tale of Two Bricks

Continuing the Steve related oddities, here's a story by Sam Ridler of Giraffic Park fame, coloured by me.
This is Sam's first foray into multi page stories and its pretty awesome.

Make you own Steve!

Hey folks, why not craft your own Steve action figure? It's easy if you follow these simple steps.

Step 1: Select a suitable brick (You'll want one with an indentation in the top). Give it a good clean with warm soapy water, perhaps in a large plastic bucket, and dry it off. It should look something like this:

It's a brick kids!

Step 2: Using a pencil or other suitable drawing device, sketch out Steve's face at one end of the brick. If you don't know what his face looks like, look at a face and copy it.

Once he has a face you can give him a name. Steve.

Step 3: Use white paint (and a brush) to fill in Steve's eyes. Use red paint (and the same brush, after cleaning with water) to fill in the tongue. A black marker is perfect for the eyebrows and the black part of the mouth.

His lack of pupils is disturbing, but don't be scared, it's just a brick.

Step 4: Once the paint is dry, edge the eyes with the black marker and add some pupils to make him less terrifying. Your Steve the Brick action figure is now complete!

It's Steve the Brick!!

Step 5: Place your completed Steve action figure (not suitable for small children or the mentally unsound) with your other Seth and Ghost figures and attempt to come to terms with his constant, cheerful gaze.

He's happy because he loves you!

Pints and Pencils 5/6/14

I've not had a lot of time to draw much other than the Seth and Ghost book (which is nearing completion) for the last couple of months but last night was Pints and Pencils so here's a few little treats from there.

First up my entry for the competition. The brief was to draw a beloved childhood character in a horrible, messed up form. I didn't win but have arranged to trade the picture with Will for a copy of Hip Hop Family Tree, a book I've been wanting for a while now.

Before I drew the Turtles, I started a Thundercats picture but it didn't really end up messed up enough. The idea was to draw them as really rough looking stray cats but it didn't turn out that way. I still quite like it though.

When things were winding down Will was talking about a safari park where the monkeys got so inbred they had to get rid of a lot of them. He described the kind of monkey he imagined seeing there and I drew it.

Finally, Sam of Giraffic Park fame, was back at P&P after a couple of months absence. I drew him a giraffe because he was drunk and had forgotten how to draw them.

Game over man, game over.

Last night was Pints and Pencils and there were a couple of competitions this time.

First up I won twenty english pounds for drawing this amazing crossover:

A couple of people seemed upset that I killed Snoopy though.

Next was a special bonus competition to design a Game of Thrones style house sigil for Fab, the bar where P&P is held. I went for this:

and finally, the usual blind, left handed drawing led to this:

which I redrew as this:

Seth and Ghost preview bits

A few random pages and things from the Seth and Ghost book I'm working on have been being used by Borderline to promote the book and I thought I'd collect them here along with a couple of other bits.

I would also like to remind anyone who hasn't got it yet that Zombre, featuring the first Seth and Ghost story and a bunch of other cool things, is available from Borderline (at the link to the side of this blog), Amazon or Travelling Man and OK Comics in Leeds. It would mean a lot to me if you bought a copy and showed some support for both me and a fledgling independent publisher.

First up the first page of Cassette Boy's solo story:

Next the first page of Pyramid Cat's solo story:

A page from Seth and Ghost vs Crow's Milk which would have appeared in the now postponed Beasts anthology:

and finally a couple of panels from another story currently being completed:

I can also confirm that the book will contain an action packed Steve solo adventure.

Sad Skullbee

My friend Fiona (whose work you can see here) did an awesome sketch of Skullbee from Seth and Ghost vs Zombeasts. He's unhappy because of reasons that are too odd to explain (even by my standards), but which involve a panda and a pub.

At the suggestion of my publisher, I'm thinking about running some sort of drawing competition for pictures of my characters where the prizes would be copies of the new book (when available) and some other unique stuff. More details when I decide what to do exactly.

Seth and Ghost's Super Reality Adventure & Activity Book

This is probably going to be the cover to the Seth and Ghost book, maybe with a couple of little tweaks. I've been talking to the publisher today about a couple of ideas and am getting pretty excited about the project. Can't wait for you all to see it.

Official Announcement Type Post

I can now officially announce that in late October the fine people at Borderline Press will be releasing a book of my Seth and Ghost stories. I may well spontaneously combust when I actually get to hold a copy.

Borderline used the following page for their announcement so I guess I should do the same.

Pyramid Cat

I made a Pyramid Cat. That is all.

Steve the Brick in 'Erosion Explosion'

A while back my friend Sam drew a picture of Seth, Ghost and Pyramid Cat in seventies disco clothes for me. It was pretty special.
Last night at Pints and Pencils I asked him to draw a Steve the Brick story and he came up with this (I added some colour).

I genuinely love this. Is Steve sad because he's been alone for 500 Years? Is it because he's lost one of his corners? Is it that the brown blob thing in front of him in the first picture is gone? Is it because it's still raining?

Between this and Will's Ghost Foetus drawing I've had some really cool 'fan' art recently. I'm still waiting for another friend to draw me a Ghost Foetus picture but if you draw (or don't) and would like to draw something for me with one or more of my characters you would make me very happy indeed.

Pints and Pencils 06/03/14

Best Pints and Pencils for a while last night. I got second prize in the drawing competition for the picture below. Will asked us to draw a design for a Pacific Rim style Jaeger for a country that wasn't represented in the movie. Easter Island seemed like a good idea and I actually had time to ink for once.

Later in the night we did one of the usual blind, left handed challenges. We drew Loki in ten seconds and then had a minute to tidy it up with a sharpie. I managed this.

Finally a couple of Ghost Foetus drawings. The first one is a quick sketch I did that Will inked and I think turned out looking pretty horrific.

The second one is all Will and is pretty terrifying. I like the little door that Amy is emerging from. I'm not sure why I have a hunchback though...

I also have a short Steve the Brick story that my friend Sam drew which I'll post sometime later today or tomorrow after I've tidied it up and maybe coloured it.
