Pints and Pencils 5/6/14

I've not had a lot of time to draw much other than the Seth and Ghost book (which is nearing completion) for the last couple of months but last night was Pints and Pencils so here's a few little treats from there.

First up my entry for the competition. The brief was to draw a beloved childhood character in a horrible, messed up form. I didn't win but have arranged to trade the picture with Will for a copy of Hip Hop Family Tree, a book I've been wanting for a while now.

Before I drew the Turtles, I started a Thundercats picture but it didn't really end up messed up enough. The idea was to draw them as really rough looking stray cats but it didn't turn out that way. I still quite like it though.

When things were winding down Will was talking about a safari park where the monkeys got so inbred they had to get rid of a lot of them. He described the kind of monkey he imagined seeing there and I drew it.

Finally, Sam of Giraffic Park fame, was back at P&P after a couple of months absence. I drew him a giraffe because he was drunk and had forgotten how to draw them.

Game over man, game over.

Last night was Pints and Pencils and there were a couple of competitions this time.

First up I won twenty english pounds for drawing this amazing crossover:

A couple of people seemed upset that I killed Snoopy though.

Next was a special bonus competition to design a Game of Thrones style house sigil for Fab, the bar where P&P is held. I went for this:

and finally, the usual blind, left handed drawing led to this:

which I redrew as this:

Pints and Pencils 06/03/14

Best Pints and Pencils for a while last night. I got second prize in the drawing competition for the picture below. Will asked us to draw a design for a Pacific Rim style Jaeger for a country that wasn't represented in the movie. Easter Island seemed like a good idea and I actually had time to ink for once.

Later in the night we did one of the usual blind, left handed challenges. We drew Loki in ten seconds and then had a minute to tidy it up with a sharpie. I managed this.

Finally a couple of Ghost Foetus drawings. The first one is a quick sketch I did that Will inked and I think turned out looking pretty horrific.

The second one is all Will and is pretty terrifying. I like the little door that Amy is emerging from. I'm not sure why I have a hunchback though...

I also have a short Steve the Brick story that my friend Sam drew which I'll post sometime later today or tomorrow after I've tidied it up and maybe coloured it.

The French Oedipal Complex

Another Pints and Pencils, another picture...

I foolishy decided to include words and try to be funny so was beaten to the prize by numerous pictures of dicks. Oh well...

Pints and Pencils 5/12/13: Ghost Foetus Special

Yet another Pints and Pencils...

This time we had to draw ourselves transforming into a shit animal. I decided to include Amy and came up with this:

I came second to a professional illustrator who did a watercolour painting of herself transforming into an angler fish.

I also got my first piece of fan art from the surreal genius Sam Ridler.

Sam is writing a story about robots for me to draw when I have some time. It will likely be odd and will almost certainly contain giraffes.

Pints and Pencils 21/11/13

I'm not proud of this...

The bowls of chaos gave me 'Sexy David Tennant making a hearty winter broth with a smexy(?) invisible man in Burnley, Lancashire.'

Burnley is the grimmest place on Earth. I had no idea what smexy meant but I assume it's a combination of sexy and mexican. Probably...

Anyway... Behold the monstrosity...

Pints and Pencils 07/11/13

Regular Pints and Pencils update. We were back to the 'bowls of chaos' this time. I got dancing 66 Batman and 'your mum' taking a lizard to court for GBH on the set of a porn film. I didn't really want to put my mum in the story so I made her the exact opposite of her real character. I have heard my mum swear precisely once in my whole life and it was pretty mild (and I'd been a total shit at the time). Anyway...here it is...

I drew some other stuff but none of it made it out of the pub. It was kind of crap though anyway.

Pints and Pencils 4/10/13

Time for your monthly dose of Pints and Pencils weirdness.

This time the challenge was to draw inappropriate pets for fictional characters. I wanted to do a sort of evil version of the legion of super pets so I came up with this.

I'm particularly happy with Bizarro Dog and the idea that a Panda is a suitable pet for a villain powered by fear.

Later Mairi asked me to draw her as a virus for reasons that are complicated and stupid. Here she is complete with the necklace she always wears:

As is usually the case we ended up doing some blind, left-handed drawing. This time though each of us drw a Star Wars character and then passed them to the next person to turn into a proper drawing. This is what Mairi did with my Darth Vader:

Will drew the basic shape of this which he assured me was Obi-Wan. It looked more like a tortoise to me though. I gave him a lightsaber as a compromise.

Pints and Pencils 1/8/13

For some reason this month we all drew a science based character taking a psychopathic robot nun on a blind date to his mother's funeral, hence this:

Poor Dr Science, he may have created everything but he can't catch a break with women...

Following the competition and a load of people leaving, those of us that were left set to drawing the JLA blind and with our off hands. Here's my attempt:

I also sketched out most of the next chapter of Ghost Foetus, so hopefully that should be coming sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Pints and Pencils 12/7/13

This was my entry for the regular competition at Pints and Pencils. The brief was to draw a comic book cover featuring an inappropriate villain of some description. I went with 'the Baby Boomer' and threw in the added bonus of a hero called 'the Wizard's Sleeve'.

I'm aware that I spelled 'inappropriate' wrong...

Pints and Pencils 6/6/13

It was Pints and Pencils again last night. This time we had to draw an old fashioned movie poster for a monster movie with a creature unlike any other movie monster. I agonised over this for ages but eventually came up with this. It's kind of small but at the bottom in the 'From the visionary director of' bit there's another film called 'Day of the Dachshund'. I would definitely watch that.

It was too late to draw it properly but I also came up with this, which I may develop at some point in the future. I think there's probably at least a short strip in it.

Then there's this monstrosity. My friend Mairi asked me to draw her and then she drew me. I turned us into bugs. She asked to be a butterfly but I am an unpleasant man and cannot be trusted.
